San Luis Obispo County, California (February 25, 2026) — An 18-year-old pedestrian was killed Wednesday afternoon after being struck by a San Luis Obispo County Animal Services vehicle while attempting to cross a roadway just outside the city of San Luis Obispo, according to authorities.
The California Highway Patrol later identified the victim as Brooklyn Gutierrez, who lived in the surrounding area.
The fatal collision occurred shortly after 4:00 p.m. on Orcutt Road near La Lomita Way, a roadway corridor located southeast of the city of San Luis Obispo.
Incident Details: According to the California Highway Patrol and local emergency responders, Gutierrez was attempting to cross Orcutt Road when she was struck by a San Luis Obispo County Animal Services truck traveling along the roadway.
Emergency crews responded to the scene after reports of a pedestrian collision. Authorities said the teen suffered severe injuries from the impact.
Despite emergency response efforts, Gutierrez was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officials reported that the occupants of the involved county vehicle were not injured in the collision.
