Benshan Robinson, 27, Killed in San Marcos Pedestrian Crash

San Marcos, California  (February 6, 2026) — A 27-year-old San Diego man was killed Friday evening after being struck by a minivan in San Marcos, according to authorities. The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office later identified the victim as Benshan Robinson.

The collision occurred around 7:50 p.m. in the 1100 block of West Mission Road, near North Las Posas Road in North San Diego County.

Incident Details: Deputies from the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of a vehicle-versus-pedestrian crash and arrived to find Robinson lying in the westbound lanes of West Mission Road. Authorities said a black Honda Odyssey minivan had struck the pedestrian.

Deputies and paramedics immediately began life-saving measures at the scene. Despite those efforts, Robinson was pronounced dead at approximately 8:15 p.m.

The driver of the minivan remained at the scene and cooperated fully with investigators. Officials have not announced any arrests. It remains unclear whether drugs or alcohol were factors in the collision.

West Mission Road is a heavily traveled corridor in San Marcos, particularly in the evening. The exact circumstances surrounding Robinson’s presence in the roadway have not yet been released.

Investigation: The crash remains under active investigation by the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office. As part of a standard fatal collision inquiry, investigators will likely examine vehicle speed, roadway lighting, visibility conditions, and the pedestrian’s location at the time of impact.

Collision reconstruction may include reviewing physical evidence from the scene, assessing skid marks and braking patterns, and determining whether the pedestrian was within or outside a marked crossing area. Investigators may also evaluate sight distance and whether environmental factors, such as glare, darkness, or traffic flow, contributed to the collision.

Because the crash occurred at night, lighting conditions and driver perception-reaction time will likely be central to the analysis. Authorities are asking anyone with additional information to contact the San Marcos Sheriff’s Station at 760-510-5200.

Legal Considerations: Pedestrian fatalities often raise complex legal questions involving right-of-way, driver attentiveness, roadway design, and visibility conditions. Under California law, motorists must exercise due care to avoid colliding with pedestrians, even when pedestrians are outside marked crosswalks.

From a civil standpoint, Benshan’s surviving family members may have grounds to pursue a wrongful death claim if evidence demonstrates negligence contributed to the crash. Such claims can address funeral expenses, lost financial support, and the profound emotional loss suffered by loved ones.

I offer my heartfelt condolences to Benshan Robinson’s family and friends during this challenging time.
