Police Investigating Possible Hit-and-Run After Man Found Dead in Southwest Bakersfield

Bakersfield, CA (October 14, 2025) – Bakersfield police are investigating a possible hit-and-run after a man was found dead early Tuesday morning along a roadway in southwest Bakersfield, according to local reports.

Accident Details: Officers were called around 3:45 a.m. to Camino Media near Gosford Road after receiving reports of a man lying in the roadway. Upon arrival, officers found an adult male who had suffered fatal injuries consistent with being struck by a vehicle. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators said no suspect vehicle remained in the area, and parts consistent with a possible collision were located nearby. Police closed Camino Media for several hours while detectives processed evidence and interviewed potential witnesses. The victim’s name has not yet been released pending notification of family members.

Investigation: The Bakersfield Police Department’s Traffic Unit is leading the investigation. Detectives are reviewing debris, skid marks, and nearby surveillance footage to identify the driver and vehicle involved. Officials have not confirmed whether the victim was walking or standing in the roadway at the time of impact. Anyone with information is asked to contact BPD at (661) 327-7111.

Legal Considerations: Leaving the scene of a fatal collision is a serious felony in California and can lead to both criminal charges and civil liability. Families of hit-and-run victims may also pursue wrongful death claims once the responsible driver is located. Preserving official reports, camera footage, and witness statements can be essential for both criminal prosecution and civil recovery.

This was a devastating discovery for first responders and the Bakersfield community. I extend my deepest sympathies to the family and friends of the victim.
