Bakersfield, CA (October 15, 2025) – Authorities have identified the woman killed in a hit-and-run crash early Sunday morning on South H Street as 43-year-old Jessica Hernandez, according to the Bakersfield Police Department.
Accident Details: Officers responded around 3 a.m. to reports of a two-vehicle crash near the intersection of South H Street and Hosking Avenue. Investigators said a red Ford Mustang collided with a white Dodge pickup, killing Hernandez, who was a passenger in the Mustang. The driver of the Mustang fled the scene on foot before officers arrived and has not been located. Paramedics pronounced Hernandez dead at the scene, while the driver of the pickup remained and cooperated with police. The crash caused significant damage to both vehicles and temporarily shut down lanes on South H Street as crews cleared the wreckage.
Investigation: The Bakersfield Police Department’s Major Collision Investigation Team is handling the case. Detectives are reviewing nearby surveillance footage and collecting witness statements to identify the Mustang’s driver. Officers believe speed played a role in the crash but have not determined whether alcohol or drugs were involved.
