Antonio Huerta Killed in Hit-and-Run While Riding Bike in Fountain Valley

Fountain Valley, CA (May 12, 2024) – A tragic hit-and-run incident in Fountain Valley resulted in the death of a Huntington Beach man this past Sunday morning, as reported by local authorities.

Incident Overview: Antonio Huerta, 52, sustained severe injuries in a collision while riding his bicycle. The accident occurred shortly after 7 a.m. at the intersection of Slater Avenue and Santa Maria Street. Huerta was found on the sidewalk just west of Santa Maria Street on Slater Avenue. Despite being quickly transported to a local hospital, he succumbed to his injuries the following day. Following the collision, the vehicle failed to stop and fled the scene. According to reports, the vehicle involved was traveling eastbound on Slater Avenue from Newland Street when it entered the bicycle lane and struck Huerta. The police urge anyone with information about the driver or the vehicle involved to contact the Fountain Valley Police Department’s traffic bureau at (714) 593-4481.

Legal Implications: This incident highlights the serious legal consequences associated with hit-and-run accidents, which not only compound the tragedy for the victim’s family, but also carry significant penalties. The family of the victim may choose to pursue a wrongful death claim against the driver once identified, seeking compensation for medical costs, funeral expenses, and the loss of companionship.

My deepest condolences go out to the family and friends of Antonio Huerta during this profoundly difficult time. I hope that authorities are able to identify the driver responsible for this incident.
