SEGUIN, TX (October 22, 2025) — A major collision involving an 18-wheeler left one man dead and several others injured Wednesday morning, closing both directions of the State Highway 123 Bypass near Interstate 10, according to Seguin police.
Accident Details: The crash occurred at about 6:30 a.m. when a white Hino straight truck traveling west on Interstate 10 veered off the roadway and fell onto the northbound lanes of SH 123 Bypass. The truck first hit a gray sedan before landing on top of a red sedan below.
The driver of the red sedan, identified as 63-year-old Anthony Stephenson of Seguin, died at the scene. Emergency crews transported the drivers of the truck and the gray sedan to nearby hospitals for treatment, though their current conditions have not been released.
Both sedans sustained heavy damage, and debris covered the intersection for several hours. Police closed the area to allow crash reconstruction teams and firefighters to recover vehicles and document the scene.
Investigation: The Seguin Police Department, assisted by the Texas Department of Public Safety, is reviewing the circumstances that caused the truck to leave the overpass. Investigators are analyzing mechanical systems, driver logs, and roadway conditions to determine whether fatigue, mechanical failure, or operator error contributed to the crash.
Authorities are also expected to review traffic camera footage and witness accounts from motorists who saw the incident unfold. No charges have been filed as the investigation continues.
Legal Considerations: When a commercial truck leaves a raised roadway, investigators must examine not only the driver’s actions but also maintenance records, weight balance, and braking function. Findings from this review could determine whether negligence, equipment malfunction, or poor roadway design played a role in the loss of control.
Families affected by such crashes often look to the official investigation for answers about accountability and future prevention. Depending on the report’s conclusions, results could influence safety assessments at the I-10 and SH 123 interchange or updates to commercial vehicle inspection standards.
We extend sincere condolences to the family of Anthony Stephenson and wish recovery for those who were hurt.
