Andres Alfaro, 28, Killed in Long Beach Motorcycle Collision

Long Beach, California (February 24, 2026) — A 28-year-old motorcyclist was killed Wednesday morning in a crash on the southbound 405 Freeway in Long Beach, according to authorities.

The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the rider as Andres Alfaro.

The collision was reported at approximately 6:53–6:55 a.m. on the southbound San Diego (405) Freeway just north of Long Beach Boulevard.

Incident Details: According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash involved a motorcycle and at least one other vehicle, described by callers as a blue Honda. Multiple 911 callers reported the collision shortly after it occurred.

When officers and emergency personnel arrived, they found Alfaro at the scene. He was pronounced dead at the location of the crash.

Authorities have not yet released details regarding how the collision occurred or whether additional vehicles were involved beyond the reported Honda.

In response to the crash, officials shut down the three left lanes of the southbound 405 Freeway for several hours while investigators processed the scene. The lane closures caused significant traffic congestion, with backups stretching west toward the 110 Freeway on the southbound side. Northbound lanes were also impacted, with delays extending to just east of Studebaker Road.

Investigation: The California Highway Patrol is investigating the circumstances leading up to the crash.

In freeway motorcycle collisions, investigators typically analyze lane positioning, speed, following distance, and whether any unsafe lane changes occurred. Because motorcycles offer little physical protection compared to passenger vehicles, even minor contact can result in catastrophic injury.

Crash reconstruction may include examining vehicle damage patterns, roadway debris fields, skid marks, and any available dash camera or traffic camera footage. Investigators may also download event data from involved vehicles to assess speed and braking in the seconds before impact.

At this time, authorities have not announced any citations or criminal charges. As investigators continue to examine the facts, the precise cause of this collision has not yet been determined.

Legal Considerations: Motorcycle crashes on high-speed freeways often raise complex liability issues. Drivers are required to maintain safe following distances and remain alert for smaller vehicles that may be more difficult to see in traffic. At the same time, motorcyclists must operate in accordance with traffic laws and roadway conditions.

If evidence proves that another driver was negligent, Alfaro’s family may be able to file a wrongful death lawsuit. This can help cover medical, funeral, and other expenses related to the loss of their loved one.

I extend my deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of Andres Alfaro during this difficult time.
