Zapien German Killed in DeSoto Parish Tractor-Trailer Crash

DeSoto Parish, Louisiana (September 6, 2025) — A Carthage man identified as 34-year-old Zapien German was killed Saturday in a two-vehicle crash involving a tractor-trailer in DeSoto Parish, according to Louisiana State Police.

Incident Details: The crash occurred around 6:45 a.m. on Louisiana Highway 169 near Louisiana 172. Investigators said a tractor-trailer was traveling south on LA-169 as German’s truck was traveling east on LA-172. For reasons still under review, the tractor-trailer entered the intersection and collided with German’s truck. German, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from his vehicle and died at the scene. The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured. Police noted that impairment is not suspected at this time.

Investigation and Legal Considerations: Louisiana State Police are continuing to investigate the crash. Authorities will examine traffic controls, vehicle speeds, and the truck driver’s actions before determining liability. In crashes like this, families of victims such as German may pursue wrongful death claims against the at-fault driver and trucking company to recover funeral expenses, lost financial support, and damages for emotional suffering. Seat belt use and compliance with traffic signals will likely be part of the investigation.

I extend my deepest condolences to the family and friends of Zapien German.
