Motorcyclist Zachary Morales, 35, Injured in Chula Vista Hit-and-Run

Chula Vista, California  (April 1, 2026) — A 35-year-old motorcyclist was injured in a hit-and-run collision Wednesday evening at Olympic Parkway and Heritage Road in Chula Vista, according to police. NBC 7 reported that the rider, Zachary Morales, was struck by a driver who left the scene.

The injured rider was identified as Zachary Morales. He told NBC 7 he suffered a broken leg and remains in pain as he recovers.

The crash happened at about 7:28 p.m. at the intersection of Olympic Parkway and Heritage Road.

Incident Details: According to the Chula Vista Police Department, officers arrived at the scene and found Morales, the driver of a motorcycle, lying in the intersection with injuries. Morales told NBC 7 that he saw the car coming toward him just before impact and was thrown about 15 to 20 feet. He said he is still recovering and cannot work or handle normal daily activities the way he could before the crash.

NBC 7 reported that Morales provided video of the crash captured by an Insta360 camera mounted to his motorcycle. The station said the footage appears to show a license plate, but it remains difficult to determine who was behind the wheel. Chula Vista police said the investigation is ongoing and, as of NBC 7’s April 12 report, no arrests had been announced.

Investigation: In a hit-and-run motorcycle crash like this, investigators will likely focus first on identifying the driver and confirming who was operating the vehicle at the time of the collision. Video evidence can be especially important in cases like this, but it often needs to be corroborated with additional evidence, such as witness statements, vehicle ownership records, and any nearby surveillance footage.

Investigators may also examine the point of impact, right-of-way, speed, and whether the driver made an unsafe turn or lane movement before striking Morales. Because the rider was thrown such a significant distance and suffered a broken leg, crash reconstruction may also help show how the impact happened and whether it could have been avoided. This is the kind of collision that calls for a full accounting of what happened and why.

Legal Considerations: Hit-and-run motorcycle crashes often raise serious civil liability issues, especially when the injured rider suffers significant pain, misses work, and faces a long recovery. Even before a suspect is identified, preserving evidence early can make a major difference. In such cases, video, vehicle identification evidence, and witness accounts may be central to proving exactly what happened and holding the right person accountable.

Pending the investigation’s findings, Morales may have the right to pursue a personal injury claim that could include compensation for medical bills, follow-up treatment, lost income, pain and suffering, and other damages related to the recovery process.

My best wishes go out to Zachary Morales, and I hope he makes a full recovery.
