Oxnard, CA (May 3, 2024) — The bicyclist who was killed in a hit-and-run crash in Oxnard last Friday has been identified as 33-year-old Youssef A. Ayad, according to the Ventura County Medical Examiner’s Office. The incident took place shortly after 6 p.m. near the intersection of Saviers and Pleasant Valley roads.
Incident Overview: According to the Oxnard Police Department, Ayad was riding southbound in the northbound bike lane near the Speedway Express gas station when an SUV hit him as it exited the station and made a right turn onto Saviers Road. The vehicle, identified as a 2002 Mercury Mountaineer, fled the scene immediately following the collision. Despite immediate medical attention, Ayad was pronounced dead at the scene due to the injuries sustained in the crash. As of Tuesday, the driver responsible had not been apprehended, and the Oxnard Police Department continues its investigation to locate and identify the driver involved.
Investigation and Legal Considerations: The Oxnard Police Department’s Traffic Division is actively investigating the incident as a hit-and-run case, urging any witnesses to come forward with information. Since this was a hit-and-run, Ayad’s family may pursue a wrongful death claim to cover funeral expenses, emotional distress, and other damages once the responsible party is identified and apprehended. Anyone with information regarding the case is encouraged to contact Traffic Investigator Alexis Arellano at 805-200-5668.
