WOOD COUNTY, Ohio (September 23, 2025) — Two semi-truck drivers were hospitalized after a three-vehicle collision Tuesday morning that shut down southbound I-75 between Toledo and Bowling Green, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Accident Details: Authorities reported the crash happened at 6:37 a.m. near the 185 milepost in Center Township. A 37-year-old Detroit man driving an International semi struck a Freightliner that was stopped on the shoulder. The Freightliner was driven by a 60-year-old man from Kingsville, Ontario, who was standing nearby when the collision occurred. The impact forced the International across lanes, where it struck a Peterbilt operated by a 33-year-old Detroit man. Both the Freightliner driver and the International driver sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to Wood County Hospital and St. Vincent Medical Center, respectively. The Peterbilt driver was not injured.
Investigation and Legal Considerations: The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the crash, which led to a prolonged closure of I-75 southbound until 1 p.m. Investigators will look at whether the International driver was fatigued, distracted, or speeding at the time of impact. In cases involving multiple commercial trucks, liability can be complex, potentially extending to drivers, their insurers, or the companies responsible for vehicle maintenance. Injured victims may pursue compensation for medical costs, lost wages, and long-term care depending on the findings of the investigation.
Truck accidents on major interstates such as I-75 pose significant risks because of the volume of traffic and the force of impact when multiple semis are involved. Even when victims survive with non-life-threatening injuries, recovery can require extensive medical treatment and rehabilitation. The involvement of multiple trucking companies can also complicate civil claims, as insurers may dispute liability.
The crash underscores the dangers of semi-truck collisions and highlights the importance of ongoing enforcement of commercial driver safety standards. Authorities are urging motorists to remain vigilant when traveling near tractor-trailers and to report unsafe driving to law enforcement.
I wish both injured drivers a full recovery following this serious Wood County truck accident.
