Philadelphia, PA (March 19, 2025) – A woman was killed Tuesday evening after being struck by a U-Haul driver who was fleeing the scene of an earlier crash. The incident occurred around 4:30 p.m. at the intersection of Kensington and Allegheny Avenues.
Incident Details: According to Philadelphia police, the crash began with a minor collision involving the U-Haul. Both drivers initially exited their vehicles, but the U-Haul driver then got back in and fled the scene, turning onto East Cambria Street. While making the turn, the driver lost control, jumped the curb, and struck a woman who had been walking on the sidewalk. The impact sent the truck crashing through a fence before it came to a stop after hitting the side of a home. No one inside the residence was injured.
The victim, described as a woman between 40 and 50 years old, was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not yet released her name. The 28-year-old U-Haul driver attempted to flee on foot but was apprehended by officers after a two-block chase. A passenger in the U-Haul was also taken into custody.
Investigation and Legal Considerations: Hit-and-run crashes that result in fatalities often carry serious criminal and civil consequences. Investigators will likely assess whether reckless driving, impairment, or other violations contributed to the suspect’s actions. The family of the victim may have grounds for a wrongful death claim to seek justice and compensation for their tragic loss.
My deepest condolences go out to the family and loved ones of the victim.
