LaBelle, FL (April 27, 2025) – A woman was killed Saturday morning in a collision involving a semi-trailer on State Road 80 in LaBelle, according to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP).
Incident Details: FHP reports that the crash occurred around 9:15 a.m. on April 27 on eastbound SR-80 near Huggetts Road. A semi-truck was stopped in the outside lane due to traffic when a car driven by a 48-year-old woman from Fort Myers failed to stop in time and slammed into the back of the trailer. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the semi-truck, a 39-year-old man from Labelle, was not injured.
Investigation and Legal Considerations: Troopers are continuing to investigate the cause of the crash, including whether distracted driving or lack of braking contributed to the collision. No charges have been filed at this time, and toxicology results are pending. Investigators may also review whether the semi-truck had its hazard lights activated or was properly marked while stopped in traffic.
