Volusia County, FL (September 30, 2025) – One person was killed and two others were seriously injured Tuesday night in a four-vehicle collision on the I-95 ramp to I-4 in Volusia County that involved an International truck and a semi-tractor-trailer, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Accident Details: The crash happened before 9 p.m. at mile marker 260. Troopers reported that a 20-year-old driver of a Ford Mustang changed lanes and contacted a Dodge Charger, sending both vehicles across the ramp lanes. As traffic converged, the front of a 2024 International truck struck the rear of the Mustang, pushing the truck into a guardrail. A following semi-tractor-trailer swerved to avoid the Charger but struck the Mustang. The Mustang’s passenger, a 34-year-old woman from Deltona, died at the scene. The Mustang driver suffered serious injuries, as did the Dodge Charger driver, a 48-year-old woman from Daytona Beach. The two truck drivers were uninjured. The ramp was significantly disrupted while first responders treated victims and investigators documented the scene.
Investigation: FHP continues to analyze vehicle movements, impact points, and guardrail damage to determine how the sequence unfolded, including the role of the commercial trucks as they encountered the initial loss of control. Standard commercial-vehicle reviews can include checking braking data and electronic control modules (ECM), examining lighting and conspicuity, and confirming hours-of-service and maintenance compliance. Investigators will also consider speed, following distance, and driver attentiveness for all vehicles involved as they finalize causation and potential fault allocations.
Legal Considerations: When a crash involves one or more commercial trucks, liability assessments can become complex—particularly where multiple impacts occur within seconds. Injured victims and families may pursue claims for medical expenses, funeral costs, lost income, and other damages. Preserving evidence such as ECM downloads, dash-cam or traffic-camera video, photographs, and witness statements is crucial. Depending on findings, responsibility may be apportioned among passenger-vehicle drivers and commercial operators, and claims may implicate motor carriers and their insurers.
My deepest condolences go out to the family of the person who lost their life, and I wish a full recovery to those injured in this Volusia County truck-involved crash.
