Arvin, CA (April 16, 2025) – A 19-year-old woman was killed and another person was seriously injured Wednesday night in a head-on crash involving a Honda sedan and a semi-truck on Bear Mountain Boulevard west of General Beale Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Accident Details: The crash occurred around 7:45 p.m. when Tyshawnda Shardi Lakeysha Griffin, of Los Angeles, was driving westbound in a 2004 Honda sedan. For reasons still under investigation, the Honda crossed into the eastbound lanes and collided head-on with a 2014 Volvo semi-truck traveling at approximately 55 mph.
The front right of the Honda struck the front left of the semi-truck. Griffin was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger in the Honda sustained major injuries and was transported to Kern Medical. The semi-truck driver stopped at the scene and fully cooperated with authorities.
Legal Considerations: Head-on collisions involving passenger vehicles and commercial trucks are often severe due to the difference in size and force. While early reports indicate the Honda crossed into the path of the truck, investigators will examine factors such as driver distraction, mechanical failure, and environmental conditions.
If the passenger in the Honda was not responsible for the vehicle’s path of travel, they may be able to pursue a personal injury claim related to the crash.
Ongoing Investigation: The California Highway Patrol continues to investigate the collision. Bear Mountain Boulevard was closed in both directions for approximately four hours. At this time, CHP has not confirmed whether alcohol or drugs were contributing factors.
I extend my condolences to the family and friends of Tyshawnda Griffin, and I hope the injured passenger recovers fully.
