Two Drivers Injured in Crash Between Farming Semi and School Bus in Madison County

Madison County, IN (March 18, 2025) – Two individuals were hospitalized Monday afternoon after a crash involving a farming semi-truck and a Madison Grant school bus near the intersection of 1550N and 300E, close to Summitville.

Incident Details: The Madison County Sheriff’s Department reported that a 2010 Kenworth farming semi hauling corn was traveling southbound on 300E when the 19-year-old driver from Summitville failed to stop at the stop sign at 1550N. The semi collided with a school bus driven by a 35-year-old Gaston resident. Fortunately, no students were aboard the bus at the time. The force of the impact caused both vehicles to leave the roadway and overturn. Both drivers were injured; the semi driver was airlifted to an Indianapolis hospital in stable condition, while the bus driver was taken to a local hospital.

Investigation and Legal Considerations: Authorities will examine whether the semi driver’s failure to stop constituted negligence, and if any additional factors—such as brake failure or visibility issues—contributed to the collision. Given the severity of the impact and vehicle rollovers, the injured bus driver may have grounds for a personal injury claim to recover damages related to medical expenses and lost income. The fact that the school bus was not transporting students may also factor into legal assessments regarding liability and risk.

Wishing both drivers a full and speedy recovery.
