LaGrange County, IN (March 6, 2025) – A crash involving a semitrailer on US 20 near CR 1150 West caused a chain reaction, sending two people to the hospital.
Accident Details: The LaGrange County Sheriff’s Office reported that the semitrailer driver failed to notice that traffic had stopped ahead on US 20, leading to a rear-end collision. The semi crashed into a pickup truck, which was then forced into a Ford Mustang. The impact pushed the Mustang underneath a box truck, which then collided with another semi in front of it.
Emergency responders transported a passenger from the pickup truck to a nearby hospital. The Mustang’s driver was trapped in the wreckage and required extraction by firefighters before being airlifted to a Fort Wayne hospital. The extent of their injuries remains unknown. Authorities have not yet determined whether the semi-driver responsible for the crash will face charges. The investigation is ongoing.
Investigation and Legal Considerations: One of the primary responsibilities of drivers is to remain aware of traffic conditions and maintain a safe following distance. In this case, investigators will examine why the semi-driver failed to stop, whether they were distracted, fatigued, or following too closely.
Authorities will review black box data from the semi, which could provide insight into whether the driver attempted to brake before impact. Witness statements, dashcam footage, and accident reconstruction reports will also help determine if the crash could have been avoided. Investigators may also check whether the truck was properly maintained and whether the driver had been working within legal hours.
If negligence is found, the injured victims may have grounds to pursue personal injury claims Compensation could cover medical bills, lost wages, pain and suffering, and long-term rehabilitation costs.
My thoughts are with those injured in this crash. I wish them a fast recovery.
