MALTA, NY (July 17, 2025) – Two drivers were hospitalized early Thursday morning following a crash between two commercial vehicles on Interstate 87 near exit 12, according to the New York State Police.
Accident Details: The crash occurred around 1:00 a.m. on I-87 in Malta. Authorities say a northbound tractor-trailer collided with another commercial vehicle that was part of a contracted road line painting operation. The line painting vehicle was not operated by the Department of Transportation but by a private contractor.
The tractor-trailer involved in the crash was hauling liquid eggs, which spilled across all three lanes of the roadway during the collision.
Emergency responders from the Round Lake Fire Department and Malta-Stillwater EMS assisted at the scene. Both drivers were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Investigation and Legal Considerations: The New York State Police are investigating the incident. Commercial vehicle crashes often involve questions about speed, visibility, and whether appropriate safety protocols were in place for roadside work. Crashes during active work zones may also raise legal considerations involving contractor and trucking company liability.
Drivers injured in commercial vehicle accidents may have legal options to seek compensation for medical costs, lost wages, and other damages.
We send our best wishes for recovery to both drivers involved in this crash.
