Two Men Killed in Separate Crashes Hours Apart in McHenry County

MCHENRY COUNTY, IL (June 23, 2025) – Two men were killed in separate vehicle crashes near Harvard and Woodstock on Sunday, according to the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office. Authorities have released additional details as investigations into both incidents continue.

Incident Details:
The first crash occurred around 2:40 p.m. near the intersection of Route 173 and White Oak Road, just west of Harvard. A 53-year-old man from Harvard was driving a Subaru Legacy westbound when, for reasons still under investigation, the vehicle veered off the road and rolled over. He was ejected from the car and pronounced dead at the scene.

Just hours later, at approximately 9:00 p.m., deputies responded to a second fatal crash near Route 14 and Hartland Road outside Woodstock. A 33-year-old Rockford man was driving a Chrysler 300 when it left the roadway and struck a tree. He was also pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigation and Legal Considerations:
Both crashes are under investigation by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Major Traffic Crash Investigation Unit. Officials say neither incident involved other vehicles. Preliminary information suggests speed and roadway departure were contributing factors in both fatalities. Toxicology reports and further forensic analysis are pending to determine whether impairment or distraction may have played a role.

We extend our deepest sympathies to the families and loved ones of both men who tragically lost their lives.
