Nipton, CA (June 29, 2025) – A wrong-way collision on Interstate 15 early Sunday morning claimed the lives of two people and left another injured.
Accident Details: The crash occurred around 4:22 a.m., just north of Zzyzx Road in an unincorporated part of San Bernardino County. California Highway Patrol (CHP) officials say a 70-year-old man from Temecula was driving a 1999 Honda Accord northbound in the southbound lane on I-15.
A 33-year-old woman from Henderson, Nevada, was driving a 2023 Kia Niro south in the southbound lane. She had one male passenger with her.
The vehicles collided head-on. Emergency medical responders pronounced both drivers dead. The male passenger in the Kia survived and was transported to University Medical Center in Las Vegas for treatment.
Investigation and Legal Considerations: The cause of the wrong-way driving remains under active investigation. CHP stated that alcohol and drugs are not suspected at this time. Investigators will likely review traffic camera footage, road conditions, witness statements, and vehicle maintenance records.
