San Antonio, TX (May 8, 2025) — A collision involving two 18-wheelers and an SUV on Interstate 35 South near Cassin Road left two people hospitalized with critical injuries Thursday morning, according to San Antonio police.
Incident Details: The crash occurred around 11:45 a.m. when a southbound 18-wheeler failed to notice that traffic had stopped ahead. In an attempt to avoid a collision, the truck driver hit the brakes, veered into the median, crossed into oncoming lanes, and jackknifed, striking an SUV driven by a 75-year-old woman.
Both the SUV driver and the 69-year-old truck driver were transported to the hospital in critical condition. A second big rig was clipped in the process but was not involved in the significant impact. Responding officers confirmed that alcohol was not a factor, and no signs of criminal wrongdoing were present at the scene. No charges are expected to be filed.
Investigation and Legal Considerations: Authorities continue investigating the events leading up to the collision, including analyzing black box data, braking distances, and vehicle maintenance records.
Pending the investigation’s findings, the injured SUV driver could have grounds to pursue a personal injury claim. This type of claim would typically seek to recover damages incurred as a result of the crash, including medical expenses, lost wages, pain and suffering, and potentially other related costs.
