Tulare County Deputy and Rose Cazares Suffer Major Injuries in Orosi Crash

Orosi, CA (October 17, 2024) – On Thursday morning, a Tulare County sheriff’s deputy and a civilian were severely injured in a two-vehicle crash in Orosi.

Accident Details: The collision occurred around 10:30 a.m. at the intersection of Avenue 412 and Road 136. According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the deputy was traveling south on Road 136 in a Ford Explorer patrol vehicle while Rose Cazares was driving west on Avenue 412 in a Toyota Corolla. The vehicles collided in the intersection. Emergency personnel transported both the deputy and Cazares to Kaweah Health Medical Center to treat their significant injuries.

Investigation: Road 136 is controlled by a stop sign, while Avenue 412 does not have one. Authorities confirmed that neither alcohol nor drugs played a role in the incident. The exact cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Legal Considerations: As a personal injury attorney, I find that this tragic accident raises several critical legal considerations regarding potential liability:

  • Right-of-Way and Intersection Control: Since Avenue 412 lacks a stop sign and Road 136 is stop-controlled, investigators will likely focus on determining whether the deputy fully stopped and ensured the intersection was clear before proceeding. The presence or absence of a complete stop could be critical in determining fault.
  • Visibility and Road Conditions: Factors like road visibility, signage clarity, and traffic flow could all play roles in the accident. Investigators might also consider whether any obstructions or environmental factors may have influenced the visibility of either driver approaching the intersection.

Potential Liability and Claims: If it is determined that either driver failed to observe proper procedures at the intersection, they could be deemed liable for the accident. Depending on the investigation’s findings, Cazares, the deputy, or both may be able to pursue a personal injury claim.

My thoughts are with the deputy, Cazares, and their families as they cope with the aftermath of this challenging incident. I hope for a swift recovery for both individuals involved.
