Apple Valley, CA (October 20, 2024) – On October 20, 2024, Joseph Romo, 39, was driving a white Tesla Model 3 southbound on Joshua Road in Apple Valley when he lost control of the vehicle.
Accident Details: Around five p.m., Romo’s car veered off the roadway, went airborne after hitting a dirt berm, and rolled several times. Romo was airlifted to a nearby trauma center, where he remained for six days before succumbing to his injuries on October 26. A 38-year-old male passenger from Apple Valley was also injured but has since been treated and released. The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Major Accident Investigative Team (M.A.I.T) is investigating the incident.
Legal Considerations: As a personal injury attorney, I find that several aspects of this case warrant further examination.
- Driver Behavior: Investigators should determine if speed, distraction, or other factors contributed to Romo losing control.
- Mechanical Issues: Vehicle issues are another area of interest, particularly in rollovers where stability or part malfunctions could impact the outcome. Assessing the Tesla for mechanical or software failures could reveal issues beyond the driver’s control.
- Road conditions: Road defects or poor road design can be significant factors, especially on roads with unexpected hazards like uneven shoulders or sudden turns. If the road presented risks, this could contribute to understanding what led to the accident.
Wrongful Death: Romo’s family members may consider exploring avenues for a wrongful death claim if evidence suggests that someone’s negligence contributed to the accident.
This tragic accident has taken the life of a community member, leaving family and friends grieving the sudden and heartbreaking loss of Joseph Romo. I extend my deepest condolences to his loved ones during this difficult time.
