Tragic DUI Crash in Rialto Claims the Lives of Two Young Sisters

Rialto, CA (November 24, 2024) – Two young sisters, ages 3 and 4, tragically lost their lives in a car accident Sunday night in Rialto.

Accident Details: Alinah Flores, 3, and Neveah Flores, 4, were riding with their parents in a white Honda Accord when a suspected DUI driver struck the vehicle. The crash occurred at approximately 11 p.m. at the intersection of Walnut and Riverside Avenues. The driver of a Dodge Ram pickup truck, identified as Alexis Garcia, ran a red light and collided with the Accord, causing the vehicle to strike a tow truck.

Despite being in car seats, both girls were killed at the scene. One of the girls was ejected from the vehicle due to the force of the collision. The parents of the girls, 25-year-old Marky Flores and 24-year-old Valencia Avilez, were also in the car. Marky Flores sustained moderate injuries, while Avilez was not injured. Garcia, the driver of the pickup truck, fled the scene but was later located and arrested on charges of murder, DUI, and felony hit-and-run. The investigation is ongoing.

Legal Considerations: As a personal injury attorney, I find that several aspects of this case warrant further examination. The driver, Alexis Garcia, faces serious charges. Driving under the influence breaches the duty of care drivers owe to others on the road. When an individual drives while impaired, they not only put their own life at risk but also endanger the lives of everyone around them.

In this case, Garcia’s reckless actions led directly to the deaths of two children. By fleeing the scene, Garcia compounded the harm caused by his actions, further demonstrating a lack of regard for the victims’ lives and the law.

Civil Claims: The legal consequences of DUI-related crashes are severe, and Garcia may face not only criminal prosecution but also civil liability for the wrongful deaths of the two young girls. Alinah and Neveah’s family may seek compensation for their grief, emotional suffering, and the financial burden caused by this tragedy. Marky Flores may be able to file a personal injury claim for medical expenses, lost wages, and pain and suffering.

My deepest condolences go out to the family of Alinah and Neveah Flores. This accident is an unimaginable tragedy, and my thoughts are with their loved ones during this heartbreaking time. Alinah and Neveah’s family has set up a GoFundMe campaign to help with funeral and medical expenses.
