Montgomery County, MD (February 28, 2025) – A collision involving a tractor-trailer rig claimed the life of 28-year-old Jiwon Kim of Silver Spring on February 28.
Accident Details: The crash occurred around 12:48 p.m. at the intersection of Layhill and Norbeck Roads. A yellow 2006 Freightliner truck pulling a black 2025 Brazos trailer was traveling eastbound on Norbeck Road when it collided with Kim’s northbound 2021 Kia Seltos. Kim was pronounced dead at the scene. The tractor-trailer dragged the SUV for several hundred feet before it stopped. Authorities are still investigating the cause of the collision and encourage any witnesses to come forward.
Investigation and Legal Considerations: A collision of this nature raises serious questions about liability. Determining which driver had the right of way will be crucial. Investigators will also analyze black box data, driver’s logs, and surveillance footage to determine if speeding, fatigue, or distraction contributed to the accident.
Depending on the investigation’s findings, there may be grounds for Kim’s family to file a wrongful death lawsuit. With this claim, recovery may include loss of financial support, funeral expenses, and damages for emotional suffering.
I offer my deepest condolences to the loved ones of Jiwon Kim during this challenging time.
