Escambia County, FL (March 24, 2025) – A multi-vehicle crash involving two semi-trucks and a sedan shut down a stretch of Interstate 10 Monday morning and left three people hospitalized with serious to critical injuries.
Accident Details: The crash occurred around 8 a.m. at mile marker 7.5, between the Highway 29 and Pine Forest Road exits. Investigators say a tractor-trailer driven by a 55-year-old woman from Geneva, Alabama, was traveling eastbound The tractor-trailer hydroplaned, causing it to cross the grassy median and hit two westbound vehicles. One was a semi-truck driven by a 39-year-old man from Kissimmee and the other was a sedan driven by a 25-year-old man from Fairhope. The sedan reportedly left the roadway and overturned as a result of the impact.
The drivers of the sedan and the second semi-truck both suffered critical injuries and were transported to a nearby hospital. The driver of the hydroplaning truck also sustained serious injuries and was hospitalized.
Investigation and Legal Considerations: One of the key issues is whether the tractor-trailer driver maintained appropriate control of the vehicle during inclement weather. Hydroplaning, while sometimes unavoidable, can be exacerbated by driving too fast for conditions or failing to maintain proper tread depth or tire pressure.
Investigators will likely review dash cam footage, examine vehicle conditions, and analyze driving behavior in the moments leading up to the crash. Was the truck’s speed appropriate for the weather conditions? Were the brakes and tires in good working order? Could the driver have reacted differently to avoid crossing the median?
In multi-vehicle crashes, especially those involving commercial vehicles, agencies will also examine the semi-truck’s maintenance records, driver logs, and the truck’s event data recorder (black box), which can reveal speed, braking activity, and steering inputs prior to the collision.
If negligence is found, injured drovers of the second semi-truck and the sedan may be entitled to pursue personal injury claims for medical expenses, lost income, and other damages.
My thoughts are with the injured individuals and their families during this difficult time.
