Toddler Raymond Gonzalez Killed in Bakersfield Crash

Bakersfield, CA (November 16, 2024) – On November 16, 2024, a tragic collision at Brimhall and Jenkins Roads in Bakersfield claimed the life of a two-year-old boy, Raymond Gonzalez.

Accident Details: According to the Kern County Coroner’s Office, the child was ejected from his family’s Chevrolet SUV after it collided with a red Honda sedan at approximately 8:39 p.m. Authorities stated that Gonzalez was not properly restrained in the vehicle at the time of the crash. Both cars approached an intersection governed by four-way stop signs. Police ruled out excessive speed and impairment as contributing factors. No other injuries were reported.

Legal Considerations: As a personal injury attorney, I find that the heartbreaking death of Raymond Gonzalez raises significant legal and safety questions. California law mandates the use of appropriate child safety seats for children. Failure to adhere to these laws can expose parents or guardians to liability.

Investigators will likely examine whether the Chevy SUV’s occupants complied with child safety seat regulations and if the seat was installed or used correctly. Properly restraining young children is a proven lifesaving measure, and failure to do so can be seen as negligence.

Additionally, intersection-related factors will be scrutinized. Despite four-way stop signs, authorities may investigate whether one or both drivers failed to yield or exercise due caution. If either driver is found negligent, the family of Raymond Gonzalez could pursue a wrongful death claim to seek justice for this preventable tragedy.

The loss of a child is an unfathomable tragedy, and my thoughts are with the Gonzalez family during this heartbreaking time.
