Orange, TX (March 19, 2025) – Timothy Gilbertson, 58, of San Leon, Texas, was killed Wednesday morning after his motorcycle collided with an 18-wheeler on Interstate 10 West in Orange.
Incident Details: According to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), the crash occurred when Gilbertson attempted to pass the semi-truck on the right shoulder. During the maneuver, the motorcycle became trapped between the truck and the concrete barrier, leading to a collision that resulted in Gilbertson being run over by the truck. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The crash caused traffic delays, with westbound I-10 reduced to one lane while emergency responders, including Acadian EMS, worked the scene.
Investigation and Legal Considerations: Fatal motorcycle crashes involving passing on the shoulder raise concerns about road safety, driver awareness, and lane-use laws. Investigators will likely assess whether visibility issues, truck driver actions, or roadway conditions contributed to the collision. If negligence is determined, Gilbertson’s family may have grounds for a wrongful death claim to seek compensation for their loss.
My deepest condolences go out to the family and loved ones of Timothy Gilbertson.
