Valinda, CA (January 14, 2025) – On the night of January 14, 2025, a tragic collision in Valinda claimed the lives of three young men.
Accident Details: At approximately 10:43 p.m., a suspected DUI driver, identified as 24-year-old Yasmin Flores Magana of La Puente, ran a red light at Azusa and Temple avenues. Magana, driving a Jeep Wrangler at high speed, collided with a Nissan Versa traveling westbound on Temple Avenue. The impact caused the Nissan to spin and crash into a metal pole, resulting in the deaths of all three occupants. The victims included 21-year-old driver Jossue De Leon Villegas, 23-year-old Carlos Cardona, and an unidentified 21-year-old male passenger. Magana’s Jeep overturned in the crash, and she was taken to a hospital for treatment of her injuries before being arrested on suspicion of DUI and vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated. The CHP is actively investigating the crash.
Legal Considerations: As a personal injury attorney, I find that several aspects of this case warrant further examination. Driving under the influence demonstrates a conscious disregard for the safety of others on the road. Beyond criminal charges, the families of the victims may pursue civil claims under California’s wrongful death laws. Such claims allow loved ones to seek compensation for the emotional and financial damages caused by the untimely loss of their family members. These damages could include funeral expenses, loss of companionship, and loss of financial support.
My deepest condolences go out to the loved ones of Jossue De Leon Villegas, Carlos Cardona, and the third unidentified victim. I hope they find solace and support during this heartbreaking time.
