Thomas Arlotta, 30, Killed in Long Beach Motorcycle Collision

Long Beach, California (February 14, 2026) — A 30-year-old motorcyclist died Tuesday morning following a collision at a Long Beach intersection, authorities confirmed.

The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victim as Thomas Arlotta.

The crash was reported shortly after 6:00 a.m. at the intersection of Anaheim Street and Linden Avenue, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

Incident Details: Police stated that Arlotta was riding his motorcycle eastbound on Anaheim Street when he entered the intersection at Linden Avenue. At the same time, a 2020 Mercedes-Benz traveling westbound on Anaheim Street was making a left turn onto southbound Linden Avenue.

According to investigators, the motorcycle collided with the turning Mercedes-Benz inside the intersection. The impact ejected Arlotta from the motorcycle.

Officers arriving at the scene found Arlotta lying on the sidewalk. The driver of the Mercedes-Benz, along with responding officers, rendered aid until Long Beach Fire Department personnel arrived. Arlotta was transported to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The driver of the Mercedes-Benz remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Authorities have not indicated that impairment was a factor.

Anyone who witnessed the crash is encouraged to contact Long Beach Police Department Collision Investigation Detail Detective Edwin Paredes at 562-570-7110.

Investigation: The Long Beach Police Department’s Collision Investigation Detail is leading the inquiry into the fatal crash.

Left-turn collisions involving motorcycles are among the most common and dangerous types of multi-vehicle crashes. Investigators will examine which vehicle had the right of way at the time the turn was initiated. In many cases, determining whether the turning driver misjudged the speed or distance of an oncoming motorcycle becomes central to the analysis.

Crash reconstruction efforts will likely focus on vehicle positioning, impact points, sight lines, and whether traffic signals were present or controlling the intersection. Detectives may also review surveillance footage from nearby businesses, analyze skid marks or debris patterns, and retrieve any available event data from the Mercedes-Benz to determine braking or steering inputs before impact.

Motorcycles are inherently more vulnerable in intersection crashes due to their smaller visual profile and lack of external protection. Even moderate-speed impacts can result in catastrophic injuries, particularly when the rider is ejected.

Authorities have not announced any citations or charges as of this writing. The investigation remains ongoing.

Legal Considerations: Intersection collisions involving left-turning vehicles often hinge on right-of-way laws and drivers’ duty to yield to oncoming traffic. Under California law, drivers making a left turn must yield to vehicles approaching from the opposite direction that are close enough to pose a hazard. Motorcycle collision cases frequently involve careful examination of perception-reaction time, visibility, and whether the turning driver exercised reasonable caution under the circumstances.

If investigators determine that the left-turning driver failed to yield when it was unsafe to proceed, civil liability may follow. Arlotta’s family may have the right to pursue a wrongful death claim to address funeral expenses, loss of financial support, and the emotional impact of his passing.

I extend my deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of Thomas Arlotta during this difficult time.
