Terrence Brockhaus, 62, Killed; Kenneth Dougherty, 58, Injured in Nebraska Cement Truck Crash

Humphrey, Nebraska  (April 10, 2026) — A 62-year-old man was killed, and another man was injured, on Friday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash at an uncontrolled intersection in Platte County, according to authorities.

Officials identified the deceased as Terrence Brockhaus of Humphrey. Authorities said Kenneth Dougherty, 58, of Silver Creek, suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

The crash happened at about 12:45 p.m. at the intersection of 445th Street and 295th Avenue, southwest of Humphrey.

Incident Details: According to the Platte County Sheriff’s Office, Brockhaus was driving a 2025 GMC Sierra westbound on 445th Street, while Dougherty was driving a 2014 Kenworth cement truck southbound on 295th Avenue. The two vehicles collided at an uncontrolled intersection, authorities said.

After the impact, Brockhaus’ pickup left the roadway southeast of the intersection and came to rest in a field. The cement truck entered the ditch southwest of the intersection and rolled onto its driver’s side.

Humphrey Rescue took Brockhaus to Columbus Community Hospital, where he was later flown to the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha with critical injuries. Authorities said he was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital. Dougherty was transported by Lindsay Rescue to Faith Health in Norfolk with non-life-threatening injuries.

Officials said it was not yet known whether either driver was wearing a seatbelt or whether alcohol played a role in the crash.

Investigation: This crash remains under investigation by the Platte County Sheriff’s Office and the Nebraska State Patrol. In a collision like this, investigators will likely focus on how both vehicles entered the intersection and whether either driver had an opportunity to avoid the impact. Because the intersection was uncontrolled, visibility, speed, and driver awareness will likely be central issues.

Investigators may review vehicle damage, scene measurements, roadway evidence, and witness statements to determine the cause of the collision. The presence of an accident reconstructionist at the scene indicates that authorities are thoroughly analyzing the sequence of events. In rural intersections without signals, just a few seconds can be crucial in understanding why one vehicle entered the other’s path.

Legal Considerations: Fatal intersection crashes involving commercial vehicles often raise serious civil liability questions, especially when fault has not yet been determined. In a case involving a cement truck, a civil investigation may also examine the commercial vehicle’s operation and any other safety factors that may have contributed to the crash.

Depending on the investigation’s outcome, Terrence Brockhaus’s family may consider filing a wrongful death claim. This could include compensation for funeral costs, as well as for the loss of financial support and emotional connection.

Kenneth Dougherty may also have a personal injury claim that can help cover medical bills, lost income, pain, and suffering.

My deepest condolences go out to the loved ones and family of Terrence Brockhaus, and I wish Kenneth Dougherty a full recovery.
