Suzanne Beyer Killed in Tractor-Trailer Crash in Oswego County, NY

Palermo, NY (March 5, 2026) – Authorities have identified 80-year-old Suzanne Beyer of Palermo as the woman who was killed in a crash involving a tractor-trailer in Oswego County.

Incident Details: According to the Oswego County Sheriff’s Office, the collision occurred around 12:22 p.m. on Thursday, March 5, 2026, at the intersection of Route 45 and Route 4 in Palermo.

Investigators reported that a 2000 Peterbilt tractor-trailer was traveling north on Route 45 when it failed to stop at a stop sign and entered the intersection. The truck then collided with a 2017 Chrysler minivan that was traveling west on Route 4.

Beyer, who was driving the minivan, was pronounced dead at the scene. The tractor-trailer driver, 62-year-old Richard Ward of Earlville, was transported to Oswego Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigation: The Oswego County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash. Investigators will examine why the tractor-trailer failed to stop at the intersection and whether driver inattention, mechanical issues, or other factors contributed to the incident.

Authorities will likely review skid marks, vehicle damage, witness statements, and any available surveillance or dash camera footage to reconstruct the crash. In cases involving commercial trucks, investigators may also analyze the driver’s logbooks, hours-of-service records, and vehicle maintenance documentation to determine whether regulatory violations or fatigue played a role.

Legal Considerations: Crashes caused by a driver failing to obey a stop sign often lead to questions of negligence. Under New York traffic laws, drivers must come to a complete stop at posted stop signs and yield the right-of-way to vehicles already traveling through the intersection. If investigators determine that the tractor-trailer driver failed to follow these rules, civil liability may apply.

Because the collision involved a commercial vehicle, liability may also extend to the trucking company depending on factors such as driver training, supervision, and vehicle maintenance practices.

If negligence is established, Suzanne Beyer’s surviving family members may have grounds to pursue a wrongful death claim seeking compensation for funeral expenses, loss of financial support, and the loss of companionship.

I extend my sincere condolences to the family of Suzanne Beyer as they navigate the grief caused by this tragic accident.
