Harvard, IL (June 8, 2025) — A serious crash involving a semi-truck and an SUV in unincorporated Harvard on Sunday afternoon left one person with severe injuries and prompted an emergency airlift to a trauma hospital in Rockford.
Incident Details: According to local reports, the collision occurred around 2:30 p.m. at the intersection of Route 173 and Crowley Road. The SUV driver collided with a semi-truck, causing the SUV to veer off the roadway and into a wooded area. The impact left the SUV driver trapped inside the wreckage. Emergency crews from the Harvard Fire Protection District, with assistance from the Hebron-Alden-Greenwood Fire Protection District, responded to the scene and extricated the trapped individual.
The SUV driver was airlifted with serious injuries to Javon Bea Hospital–Riverside in Rockford. The semi-truck driver was reportedly unharmed. Route 173 was shut down in both directions for approximately two hours during rescue and cleanup operations.
