Chico, CA (February 16, 2025) – Stephanie Zeisloft, 52, of Smartsville, was tragically killed in a head-on collision caused by a wrong-way driver on Highway 99 in Chico.
Accident Details: The accident occurred at approximately 8 p.m. According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the Chico Communications Center received reports of a tan SUV traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of Highway 99. Before officers could intercept the vehicle, it was involved in a head-on crash with a southbound Kia Forte driven by Zeisloft.
Zeisloft was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the SUV, a 32-year-old man from Dos Palos, was transported to Enloe Medical Center for treatment of his injuries. Authorities suspect alcohol to be a factor in the crash. Chico CHP is investigating the accident.
Investigation and Legal Considerations: As a personal injury attorney, I find that several aspects of this case warrant further examination. Authorities are conducting a detailed investigation to determine the sequence of events leading up to the crash and to confirm the role of alcohol in the incident. Investigators will analyze surveillance footage from traffic cameras and nearby businesses to trace the path of the wrong-way driver before the collision. The CHP will also conduct toxicology tests on the Lexus driver to determine his blood alcohol content (BAC) at the time of the crash. Intoxication impairs cognitive thinking and reaction time, increasing the risk of accidents.
If a victim is killed in a crash due to another’s negligence, the victim’s family may have grounds to file a wrongful death claim.
I extend my deepest condolences to Stephanie Zeisloft’s family and friends. I hope they receive support and closure during this difficult time.
