Monterey Park, CA (June 28, 2024) – The Medical Examiner’s office released the names of the remaining two victims killed in a solo vehicle crash in Monterey Park. They were identified as 33-year-old Randy Guereca and 54-year-old Denise Guereca.
Accident Details: The accident occurred around 12:34 a.m. on Friday at the intersection of East Graves Avenue and Cecil Street. Officers from the Monterey Park Police Department responded to the scene and found an SUV that had struck a tree, hit three other vehicles, and rolled over onto its roof. Randy Guereca died in a driveway, while Denise Guereca and 34-year-old Alexander Cota Jr. died in a vehicle. The driver, suspected of being intoxicated, was located outside the vehicle, assisting her 7-year-old daughter. Both were transported to Los Angeles General Medical Center with minor injuries.
Ongoing Investigation and Legal Considerations: The driver has been arrested on suspicion of drunken driving. Anyone with information about the crash is urged to contact the Monterey Park Police Department. Given the driver’s arrest on suspicion of DUI, it is crucial to examine the results of any blood alcohol content (BAC) tests and other evidence indicating intoxication. Reports indicate that the driver was speeding prior to the crash. Speeding, combined with intoxication, significantly increases the risk of accidents and can be used to support claims of reckless driving. Depending on the final outcome of the investigation, the family of Randy Guereca and Denise Guereca may be able to pursue a wrongful death claim.
My sincerest condolences are with the family and friends of Randy Guereca and Denise Guereca during this difficult time. I hope that the results of the investigation shed light on what happened.
