Clovis, CA (December 1, 2024) – On Sunday morning, December 1, 2024, a tragic suspected DUI crash at the intersection of Gettysburg and Fowler avenues in Clovis claimed the life of 25-year-old Quinceia McBean of Coarsegold.
Accident Details: The collision occurred just after 2 a.m. when a vehicle driven by a Clovis 19-year-old with the last name Himanshu allegedly ran a red light at high speeds and struck the car McBean was traveling in. In addition to the impact on McBean’s vehicle, the collision involved three parked cars in nearby private driveways.
McBean was transported to a local hospital but tragically succumbed to her injuries. The driver of her vehicle remains in critical condition. Himanshu, whose California ID lists “FNU” as his first name and lacks identifying physical details, had three passengers in his car, two of whom were hospitalized with various injuries.
Investigation: Authorities report that occupants of the suspect’s vehicle were uncooperative at the scene, and none admitted to being the driver. Himanshu has been charged with five felonies, including hit-and-run.
Legal Considerations: As a personal injury attorney, I find that several aspects of this case warrant further examination. Himanshu faces charges including suspected DUI, running a red light, and hit-and-run, with potential ramifications under California’s criminal laws. These actions violate a driver’s duty to navigate the roads safely and keep other drivers and pedestrians safe. If proven, these actions may constitute negligence and implicate the driver (once identified) in civil liability.
Additionally, the family of Quinceia McBean might consider pursuing a wrongful death claim to address the financial and emotional toll of their loss. Meanwhile, the injured persons may explore a personal injury claim for recovery costs and ongoing care.
The loss of Quinceia McBean is a profound tragedy. I extend my deepest condolences to her family, friends, and loved ones during this unimaginably difficult time. I also hope for the recovery of the injured individuals.
Update January 4, 2025: The critically injured driver, identified as 42-year-old Ian Shaw of Clovis, died on December 28, 2024. His family has set up a GoFundMe account for final expenses. Please contribute if you can.
