Suspected DUI Crash in Bakersfield Kills Max and Desiree Mooney

Bakersfield, CA (March 16, 2025) – A suspected DUI crash in Bakersfield early Sunday morning claimed the lives of 30-year-old Max Mooney and Desiree Mooney, passengers in one of the vehicles.

Accident Details: The fatal collision occurred at approximately 1:37 a.m. at the intersection of Coffee Road and Stockdale Highway. Emergency responders arrived to find Max Mooney dead at the scene, while Desiree Mooney was transported to Kern Medical, where she was pronounced dead less than an hour later. The driver and a third passenger suffered moderate injuries and were transported to the hospital.

The driver of the white Hyundai that hit the other vehicle suffered minor injuries. She was also transported to the hospital for minor injuries. Authorities identified the driver as 21-year-old Andrea Correa. Police believe speed and alcohol contributed to the accident. Correa has been arrested on homicide charges, though as of Monday, March 17, 2025, she remains in the hospital.

Investigation: Authorities will gather critical evidence, including toxicology reports, traffic camera footage, witness statements, and vehicle damage analysis, to determine how the crash occurred.

Legal Considerations: Driving under the influence endangers lives and carries significant legal consequences. Impaired drivers experience slower reaction times, poor judgment, and reduced coordination, making them far more likely to cause fatal crashes. Speeding also violates a driver’s duty to drive safely. Speeding puts other road users and pedestrians at risk and makes it harder for a driver to stop and adjust to changes in traffic conditions.

If negligence is confirmed, the families of Max and Desiree Mooney may have grounds to pursue a wrongful death action for funeral expenses, loss of financial support, and emotional suffering.

I extend my deepest sympathies to the family and loved ones of Max and Desiree Mooney.
