Pedestrian Killed in South Los Angeles Hit-and-Run

September 12, 2025 — SOUTH LOS ANGELES — A pedestrian was killed Friday night after being struck twice in a deadly hit-and-run crash near Figueroa and 81st streets.

Incident details: According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the crash happened around 7:36 p.m. as the pedestrian was crossing Figueroa Street outside of a marked crosswalk. Investigators said a silver Toyota Corolla traveling south struck the victim, causing him to be thrown into the air before landing on the roadway. The driver of the Toyota pulled over and attempted to render aid, but before assistance could be provided, a second southbound vehicle described only as a blue car struck the victim again. That driver fled the scene without stopping. Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics transported the pedestrian to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His identity has not yet been released pending notification of family.

Investigation: The Los Angeles Police Department’s South Traffic Division is leading the investigation and has asked for the public’s help in identifying the driver of the blue vehicle. Authorities noted that the city of Los Angeles offers a reward of up to $50,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of a suspect in fatal hit-and-run cases. Detectives are reviewing witness statements and any potential surveillance footage from nearby businesses or homes in an effort to track down the second driver.

Hit-and-run crashes involving pedestrians are among the most devastating roadway incidents, as victims are left without immediate aid in critical moments. The violent nature of this collision highlights the risks pedestrians face when crossing busy streets and the dangers created when drivers fail to remain at the scene.

Anyone with information is urged to contact South Traffic Division Detective III Moreno at 213-458-3472 during business hours or the division’s Watch Commander at 323-421-2570 after hours. Anonymous tips can also be submitted through L.A. Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online at www.lacrimestoppers.org.

We extend our deepest sympathies to the family and loved ones of the victim during this difficult time.
