Shelli Janae Fuller Fatally Struck by a Car in Bakersfield

Bakersfield, CA (August 22, 2024) – On the morning of August 22, 2024, tragedy struck when Shelli Janae Fuller, 38, of Shafter, was hit by a car while trying to intervene in a street fight at Olive and Knudsen Drives.

Accident Details: According to reports, Fuller stopped her vehicle to break up an altercation involving multiple people. Unfortunately, during her attempt to help, she was struck by an oncoming car. She was transported to Kern Medical, where she tragically passed away on September 1. The driver involved in the accident initially fled the scene but later contacted the Bakersfield Police Department to report their involvement in the crash.

Legal Considerations: As a personal injury attorney, I find that several aspects of this case warrant further examination. Leaving the scene of an accident involving injury or death is a serious offense with criminal and civil consequences. In addition to the hit-and-run element, it is critical to investigate whether the driver was negligent or if any other parties contributed to the accident. Was the driver speeding or distracted? Did other factors contribute to the crash, such as poor street lighting or dangerous road conditions?

Fuller’s family might be able to pursue a wrongful death lawsuit. If successful, they may be able to recover compensation for their loss, including funeral expenses, loss of financial support, and emotional distress.

I extend my deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Shelli Janae Fuller during this incredibly difficult time.
