San Ardo, CA (April 8, 2025) – A head-on crash involving a semi-truck on Highway 101 near San Ardo early Tuesday morning left two passengers seriously injured and prompted a temporary closure of the southbound lanes, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
Incident Details: The crash occurred shortly before 6 a.m. when a 64-year-old man driving a Freightliner semi-truck northbound on Highway 101 crossed the median for reasons still under investigation and began traveling in the wrong direction.
A Buick sedan, driven by a 47-year-old woman and carrying two passengers, collided head-on with the semi-truck. The passengers, a 45-year-old woman and a 75-year-old woman, both sustained major injuries and were transported to Natividad Medical Center in Salinas for treatment.
Following the collision, the southbound lanes of Highway 101 near San Ardo were briefly closed, with traffic diverted via the Lockwood exit. Northbound lanes remained unaffected. The highway has since been reopened.
The California Highway Patrol is still investigating the crash, and as more details become available, further updates are expected.
Investigation and Legal Considerations: The CHP has not yet determined why the semi-truck crossed into opposing traffic. Investigators will examine whether driver fatigue, distraction, medical emergency, or mechanical failure contributed to the incident.
If the investigation finds that the semi-truck driver acted negligently, the injured victims may have grounds to pursue personal injury claims. These claims could help recover medical expenses, lost income, pain and suffering, and long-term rehabilitation costs.
