Leggett, CA (March 19, 2025) – A crash between a semi-truck and a passenger van shut down both lanes of Highway 101 near mile marker 98 Wednesday morning.
Incident Details: The collision occurred at approximately 11:40 a.m. The semi-truck came to rest across both lanes of traffic, while the van went off the roadway and into the South Fork Eel River. Initial reports suggested a possible occupant in the submerged van, but Cal Fire later confirmed that both occupants were able to exit the vehicle and reach the riverbank safely. The extent of their injuries has not yet been reported.
Emergency crews, including Cal Fire and California Highway Patrol, responded to the scene. One-way traffic was initially implemented, and both lanes were fully reopened by 3:30 p.m.
Investigation and Legal Considerations: Investigators will evaluate whether speed, driver error, mechanical failure, or weather conditions contributed to the crash. In cases involving commercial vehicles and roadway blockages, liability may involve the truck driver, trucking company, or other parties depending on the findings. Injured parties may have grounds for a personal injury claim depending on the results of the investigation.
Wishing a full recovery to everyone involved in the incident.
