Semi-Truck Collides with a Passenger Vehicle in Lapeer County Intersection

Lapeer County, MI (March 24, 2025) – Two people were hospitalized Monday morning following a crash between a Jeep Patriot and a semi-truck at the intersection of Sutton and Metamora roads on the border of Lapeer and Metamora townships.

Accident Details: According to officials, the Jeep was heading northbound on Metamora Road around 9:30 a.m. when the semi-truck, traveling east on Sutton Road, stopped at the intersection but proceeded directly into the Jeep’s path. The resulting collision trapped both occupants of the Jeep inside the vehicle. Metamora Fire & Rescue responded and used the Jaws of Life to extricate them.

Both occupants, who were properly restrained with seatbelts, sustained non-life-threatening injuries. They were transported to McLaren Lapeer Region by Lapeer County EMS.

Investigation and Legal Considerations: Crashes at rural intersections without traffic signals often involve failures to yield the right-of-way. In this case, investigators will likely assess whether the semi-truck driver misjudged the Jeep’s speed or distance or failed to see the approaching vehicle. Driver distraction, fatigue, or visibility issues may also be contributing factors.

Authorities will review physical evidence from the scene and gather witness statements. Additionally, the semi-truck’s event data recorder may be examined to determine the speed and braking behavior leading up to the crash. Maintenance logs and inspection records could provide insight into whether a mechanical failure contributed to the incident.

Depending on the investigation’s findings, the injured occupants may have grounds to pursue a personal injury claim for damages related to medical expenses, lost wages, and pain and suffering.

I wish the injured a fast recovery.
