Scottsbluff, Nebraska (September 9, 2025) — A 36-year-old man from Scotts Bluff County was killed Tuesday morning in a crash involving a semi-truck on Highway 26, according to the Scottsbluff Police Department.
Incident Details: Officers were called just before 6 a.m. to an intersection in the northern part of Scottsbluff. Investigators determined that a 1995 Freightliner semi-truck and trailer was stopped in the eastbound right lane at a red light. When the light turned green and the truck began moving through the intersection, an eastbound 2000 red Oldsmobile Bravada in the same lane struck the rear of the trailer. The driver of the Bravada died at the scene. The 50-year-old truck driver, also from Scottsbluff, was not injured.
Investigation and Legal Considerations: Police are continuing to investigate the crash. Rear-end collisions with tractor-trailers can result in fatal outcomes due to the weight and structure of the trucks. Factors under review may include speed, driver attentiveness, and traffic conditions at the time. Families of victims may pursue wrongful death claims to recover damages for funeral expenses, lost income, and emotional suffering. Authorities have not issued any citations at this time, and the name of the victim is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
I extend my deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of the man killed in this Scottsbluff truck accident.
