Santa Maria, CA (May 22, 2024) – A three-vehicle collision on Highway 101 near Union Valley Parkway led to the death of an 80-year-old Santa Maria resident, identified as Ronald Dickerson, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP). The accident occurred this past Wednesday in Santa Maria.
Incident Overview: The incident happened at approximately 12:15 p.m. Dickerson was driving his 2007 Honda Civic southbound near Union Valley Parkway when he approached stopped traffic. For reasons yet to be determined, Dickerson’s vehicle failed to slow down and collided with the rear of a Dodge Durango, which then impacted a 1996 Dodge 2500 pickup truck. Emergency personnel arrived promptly at the scene. Dickerson and two passengers from the Dodge Durango were treated on-site before being transported to Maria Medical Regional Center. Unfortunately, Dickerson succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. The two Durango passengers were treated and later released after receiving medical care.
Legal Implications: The accident is under active investigation by the CHP to determine the causal factors, including any potential issues with the vehicle or health concerns that might have affected Dickerson’s ability to respond to the traffic conditions. The outcome of this investigation will be crucial in determining the next steps in terms of legal and insurance claims. Depending on the findings, the families of the injured parties may pursue personal injury claims for medical costs, pain and suffering, and other related damages. Additionally, if it’s found that a vehicle defect caused the accident, the family of the victim could potentially pursue a wrongful death claim against the manufacturer. However, more information is needed about the cause.
My deepest condolences go out to the family and friends of Ronald Dickerson. We also wish a swift recovery to those who were injured in this tragic event.
