Rico Pallares Killed in Long Beach Crash

Long Beach, CA (January 30, 2025) –  A deadly crash on the Long Beach (710) Freeway claimed the life of a passenger and left another occupant injured.

Accident Details and Ongoing Investigation: The incident occurred around 2:57 a.m. near the Del Amo Boulevard off-ramp in Long Beach. According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the driver of an SUV lost control, causing the vehicle to slam into a freeway sign and veer off the road. The SUV crashed into a Metro Line maintenance yard fence, trapping both occupants inside. One passenger, identified by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner as Rico Pallares, 47, was pronounced dead at the scene. The other occupant was transported to a hospital in an unknown condition. CHP officers are investigating to determine the cause of the crash.

Legal Considerations: As a personal injury attorney, I find that several aspects of this case warrant further examination. Investigators will examine factors such as driver behavior, vehicle condition, and roadway hazards to assess the cause of this tragic crash. They may look into whether the driver was speeding, impaired, or distracted at the time of the accident. Additionally, mechanical failures or poor road design could be contributing factors.

The family of Rico Pallares may have grounds to file a wrongful death lawsuit if the investigation reveals that the driver or another party was negligent. A wrongful death claim can help recover damages such as funeral costs, loss of support, and emotional suffering. The injured individual may be able to file a personal injury claim for medical expenses, loss of income, and pain and suffering.

I extend my deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Rico Pallares. I hope his loved ones find strength and support during this difficult time. I also wish the injured passenger a fast recovery.
