Hinds County, MS (April 8, 2025) – A crash involving two 18-wheelers on Interstate 55 North in Hinds County left one driver dead and caused a complete shutdown of the highway Tuesday morning. The Mississippi Highway Patrol (MHP) is leading the investigation into what led to the fatal collision.
Incident Overview: The crash occurred at approximately 11:00 a.m. near mile marker 83, just past the Wynndale Road exit between Byram and Terry. According to MHP, a 1999 Peterbilt and a 2023 International MV60 were both traveling northbound on I-55 when the vehicles collided.
The driver of the International, 50-year-old Reggie McNeal of Brandon, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Peterbilt was transported by private vehicle to a local hospital, though their condition has not been released.
Authorities responded by blocking all northbound lanes of I-55, causing significant traffic disruptions as emergency personnel cleared the wreckage and began an investigation into the crash.
Investigation and Legal Considerations: The Mississippi Highway Patrol has not yet released details regarding the cause of the crash, but investigators will evaluate key factors such as vehicle speed, driver fatigue, mechanical failure, and potential lane violations.
McNeal’s family may also consider pursuing a wrongful death claim depending on the outcome of the investigation. Such a claim could help cover funeral expenses, lost income, and emotional suffering.
My thoughts are with McNeal’s family and loved ones.
