Raul Cibrian Navarro Killed in Bakersfield Aqueduct Crash

Bakersfield, CA (December 22, 2024) – On December 22, 2024, a semi-truck driver lost his life after crashing into the California Aqueduct near Interstate 5 and Laval Road in Kern County.

Accident Details: The Kern County Coroner’s Office identified the driver as Raul Cibrian Navarro, 32, of Calexico. According to reports, Navarro was traveling northbound on I-5 when his vehicle veered off the roadway and plunged into the aqueduct around 5 a.m. The crash left the big rig nearly fully submerged. Emergency responders recovered Navarro’s body from the truck’s cabin after the vehicle was removed from the water at approximately 2:46 p.m. Tragically, he was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities with the California Highway Patrol (CHP) are continuing their investigation to determine the cause of the crash.

Legal Considerations: As a personal injury attorney, I find that several aspects of this case warrant further examination. Investigators assess various factors, including the driver’s behavior, road conditions, and potential mechanical failures. If evidence suggests that negligence caused the crash, Navarro’s family may have grounds to file a wrongful death claim. With this claim, they may be able to recover compensation for funeral costs, loss of financial support, and emotional distress.

I extend my deepest sympathies to Raul Cibrian Navarro’s family and loved ones during this heartbreaking time.
