Howard County, MD (June 6, 2025) — One person was killed early Thursday morning after a fiery collision between a pickup truck and a tractor-trailer shut down all eastbound lanes of Interstate 70 for several hours, according to Maryland State Police.
Incident Details: The crash occurred shortly after 4:15 a.m. on I-70 East near Sand Hill Road. A preliminary investigation by state police determined that the pickup truck, hauling a trailer, and a tractor-trailer collided, resulting in both vehicles catching fire. The driver of the pickup truck was pronounced dead at the scene. Their identity has not yet been released.
The driver of the semi-truck was not injured.
Investigation and Legal Considerations: The investigation is ongoing, and authorities will assess lane positioning, speed, visibility, and whether either driver attempted evasive maneuvers before the crash. They will likely analyze skid marks, vehicle data recorders (if available), and witness reports.
Pending the findings of the investigation, the family of the deceased may be eligible to pursue a wrongful death claim. These claims can help cover funeral expenses, loss of companionship, and other damages.
