Pinon Hills, CA (April 8, 2025) – A 21-year-old man was struck and killed early Tuesday morning in a hit-and-run collision along State Route 138 near Oasis Road in an unincorporated area of San Bernardino County, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
Incident Overview: The fatal crash was reported at approximately 12:20 a.m. on April 8. Officers with the CHP Victorville Area Office, along with emergency crews from the San Bernardino County Fire Department, responded to the scene and located the pedestrian, who was pronounced dead at the location.
Debris found at the scene indicates that the suspect vehicle may be a silver 2006–2008 Toyota Prius, possibly with damage to the right front side. It remains unclear whether drugs or alcohol were involved, and the investigation is ongoing.
The victim’s identity has not yet been released pending notification of next of kin. Authorities urge anyone with information about the crash or the vehicle involved to contact Officer X. Rodriguez at the CHP Victorville Area Office.
Investigation and Legal Considerations: A preliminary investigation revealed that the pedestrian had been walking westbound in the westbound lane of SR-138 when he was struck by a vehicle traveling in the same direction. The driver failed to stop, did not offer aid, and fled before authorities arrived.
Under California law, leaving the scene of a crash that results in death is a felony offense. Drivers must stop, render aid, and notify law enforcement. If the driver is identified and arrested, they could face serious criminal charges, including vehicular manslaughter and felony hit-and-run.
The victim’s family may also have the right to pursue a wrongful death claim, which could provide compensation for funeral costs, emotional suffering, and financial losses resulting from the sudden and tragic death.
