Bakersfield, CA (March 31, 2025) – A pedestrian was struck and killed in a hit-and-run crash late Saturday night at the intersection of South Union Avenue and White Lane in South Bakersfield, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Incident Details: Officers responded to the scene around 10:45 p.m. and found the pedestrian deceased upon arrival. The driver involved fled the scene, and it remains unclear whether they have since been located or taken into custody. Southbound lanes of South Union Avenue were closed temporarily for investigation and have since reopened.
Investigation and Legal Considerations: CHP investigators will seek to identify the fleeing driver using nearby surveillance footage, witness statements, or vehicle debris. Hit-and-run fatalities often carry both criminal and civil consequences. If the suspect is apprehended, the victim’s family may be able to pursue a wrongful death claim alongside criminal proceedings. Additionally, if the suspect remains at large, the family may explore compensation through uninsured motorist coverage.
My condolences go out to the victim’s family during this difficult time.
